Social Median (http://www.socialmedian.com)   Leave a comment

I listened to a podcast about www.socialmedian.com and thought it sounded pretty cool. Basically, you create an account, then subscribe to “News Networks”. These are sort of like associates of links/stories about a common theme (you can start your own, or sign up for one that already exists), but also with something akin to www.digg.com where you can rate the stories, and you can post comments as well.

Great idea, but here’s the catch.. There doesn’t seem to be a critical mass of people on there to make it work. For instance, I am subscribed to one called “Linux” which has 35 users, with 10 topics in it.

I’ll stick it out for a while, but when my single vote makes a VERY significant change in a stories status, that doesn’t seem right… The most popular News Network right now is Web 2.0 with 2,305 users in it.
